Weekend Waiver Wire

The All-Star Break and its festivities has come and gone. Hopefully you enjoyed it if that is your thing. If not, maybe it was a much-needed break from fantasy hockey. Either way, things are returning to full swing now and scheduling will be returning to “normal” next week.

Most fantasy leagues combine the week before and the week after into one period. Thus, for most leagues, this weekend is the tail end of a long two-week scoring period. We will now examine a few matchups to target with waiver wire adds to put your over the top for the period!

There are six teams with back-to-back games from Friday February 9 to Sunday February 11.

Friday 02/09 and Saturday 02/10

1. Edmonton Oiliers: @Anahein Ducks and @Los Angeles Kings

2. Pittsburgh Penguins: @Minnesota Wild and @Winnipeg Jets

Saturday 02/10 and Sunday 02/11

1. Vancouver Canucks: @Detroit Red Wings and @Washington Capitals

2. Washington Capitals: @Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks

3. Montreal Canadiens: Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues

4. St. Louis Blues: @Buffalo Sabres and @Montreal Canadiens

Calvin Pickard – EDM The best matchups to target are the Edmonton Oilers. Calvin Pickard (14% rostered in Fantrax and 18% in Yahoo) will start Friday against the Anaheim Ducks. He only has two starts the past 30 days, but has two wins, 43 saves, 0.99 GAA, 0.956 SV%, and one shutout in that timeframe. Although the Oilers win streak was broken, the probability for a win and excellent peripherals is high.

Joel Hofer – STL Hofer (38% rostered in Fantrax and 7% in Yahoo) will either start @BUF or @MON. He has three starts over the past 30 days, but has two wins, 97 saves, 2.96 GAA, and a 0.915 SV% in that span. The preferable matchup would be Montreal, but he should provide decent peripherals in either matchup and the chance for a win. The Blues are in the hunt for a wild card spot for the playoffs, enhancing his appeal some.

There are also several other option to consider, albeit not as good of matchups or prior performance as of late. Montreal has a back-to-back, but they are a risky proposition. They could provide volume. Just do not expect good GAA and SV% from them. Casey DeSmith (VAN) and Charlie Lindgren (WSH) will both get starts this weekend, but have struggled as of late.
