Weekend Waiver Wire

Welcome fantasy managers to another edition of the Weekend Waiver Wire. It is time once again to take a look at what goaltenders may be available as a streaming option this weekend to help you take down your fantasy matchups. Let’s get to it!

Calvin Pickard - Edmonton Oilers (9% Yahoo / 23% Fantrax) [@VAN - Sat / STL - Sun]

Connor Ingram - Edmonton Oilers (20 Yahoo / 32% Fantrax)

A pretty favorable matchup for either of the Edmonton Oilers netminders this coming weekend against two struggling teams in the Vancouver Canucks and St-Louis Blues. Connor Ingram has been a pleasant surprise since his call-up after Stuart Skinner was sent packing to Pittsburgh, with the 28-year old sporting a 4-2-1 record with a 2.72 goals against and a .903 save percentage including a 71.4% quality start rate and 1.50GSAx. Meanwhile, Pickard has had his struggles this year with a 5-6-2 record accompanied by a 3.68 goals against and .870 save percentage in addition to a 18.8% quality start rate and -6.00GSAx. Regardless of Pickard’s struggles I’m rather confident in both Oilers netminders this weekend mainly due to the quality of competition along with Edmonton’s vaunted offense. Solid streaming options in both cases.

Frederik Andersen - Carolina Hurricanes (30% Yahoo / 40% Fantrax) [FLA - Fri / @NJ - Sat]

It has been an extremely difficult year for Freddy Andersen with the former Leaf hobbling to a 6-10-3 record with a rather inflated 3.37 goals against and .862 save percentage in addition to a 15.8% quality start rate and -4.99GSAx. Keep in mind that the Great Dane is putting up these bloated numbers behind one of, if not the most structured lineup in the league which limits opponents to 24.3 SA/GP (leads the NHL). A back-to-back against the Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils (both of whom are on 2-game win streaks) won’t help matters any however the Canes underlying numbers are slightly better than both Florida and New Jersey to this point in the campaign. My advice - Andersen would be one of my last resorts due mainly to his level of play this season.

Anton Forsberg - Los Angeles Kings (6% Yahoo / 16% Fantrax) [ANA - Fri / @ANA - Sat]

A home and home awaits Forsberg and the Kings with the Anaheim Ducks as their opponent. I don’t mind this spot for Forsberg the way the Ducks have been playing of late, (1-8-1 in their last 10GP) combine that with his own performance this year (7-6-3 record, 2.65GAA, .900SV%) along with a Kings roster known more for their defense and one can see a decent streaming option here. It’s not my first choice but there’s promise.

Leevi Merilainen - Ottawa Senators (10% Yahoo / 31% Fantrax) [MTL - Sat / @DET - Sun]

James Reimer - Ottawa Senators (2% Yahoo / 4% Fantrax)

A huge test for the Ottawa Senators this weekend with a back-to-back against divisional rivals Montreal and Detroit. Quite frankly, this is a tough spot for the Sens who are already without their number one goaltender Linus Ullmark while the team itself ranks 28th defensively at 3.33 GA/GP. Conversely, both Montreal (6-2-2 in their last 10GP) and Detroit (6-3-1 in their last 10GP) have continued to solidify their standing in the Atlantic. Personally, I will be fading Ottawa’s goaltending this coming weekend.

Ville Husso - Anaheim Ducks (1% Yahoo / 5% Fantrax) [@LA - Fri / LA - Sat]

As previously mentioned, the Anaheim Ducks are in a real slump with the team going 1-8-1 in its last ten games played and to be honest I don’t see things changing much with a home and home against the Los Angeles Kings. Anaheim will need to crank up the offense if they are to have any chance against a stingy Kings squad who is currently ranked fifth league-wide at 2.74 GA/GP. The Ducks meanwhile rank dead last defensively at 3.67 GA/GP, so without that offensive push from its young stars, Anaheim could be in trouble. Look for a more favorable option.

Daniil Tarasov - Florida Panthers (3% Yahoo / 19% Fantrax) [@CAR - Fri / @WSH - Sat]

It’s been a decent season so far for the Panther’s backup even if the won-loss record is a bit deceiving. Tarasov has put together a 5-6-2 record accompanied by a 2.81goals against and .904 save percentage in addition to a 50% quality start rate and 4.27GSAx. The Panthers have definitely shown their championship pedigree over the first half of the campaign while refusing to let injuries to stars Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk determine their fate. I would not be against adding Tarasov this weekend…..even more so if Matthew Tkachuk makes his long awaited return to the line up on friday against the Carolina Hurricanes. A solid pickup off the wire.

Justus Annunen - Nashville (1% Yahoo / 14% Fantrax) [@COL - Fri / @VGK - Sat]

Talk about a tough ask for the Nashville Predators with a back-to-back against western juggernauts in the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights. Regardless of who Annunen stacks up against, I don't like his chances for a positive outcome even with the Preds playing quite well of late (6-4 in their last 10GP - 2 game win streak). Justus Annunen has been on a nice little run recently with a 3-1 record accompanied by a 2.00 goals against and .932 save percentage in addition to a 4.74GSAx with all four being quality starts. That being said, both the Avalanche and Knights will be a handful as both clubs have been flexing their respective muscles recently with the Knights currently on a 5 game win streak while the Avalanche are well…………..the Avalanche! If more favorable matchups are not available then it’s a calculated gamble when it comes to Annunen, proceed with caution.
